What do scratch-off odds actually mean?

The odds of winning larger prizes are much longer. Our rankings go beyond overall odds to show you the expected return on every dollar spent.

What is the Return Rate?

The return rate measures how much money you'd get back, on average, for every dollar you spend on a ticket. A rate of 72¢ means you'd expect to get back 72 cents per dollar spent. Higher rates mean a better deal. We calculate rates using current prize availability, not the original print run.

Not necessarily. While higher-priced tickets often have better overall odds and higher return rates, there are frequently $5 or $10 games that outperform $30 games. Our rankings compare games within and across price points so you can find the best value at any budget.

Rankings are normalized within each price tier and state, so a #1 rank means the best game at that price point. Paid members can choose from four ranking modes tailored to different goals.
